Field Trips

IMCC7 is offering two field excursions that will take place on Saturday, 19 October 2024, a day after the closing of the conference. The two excursions promise to be most informative and enjoyable and provide delegates a glimpse of marine life at the tip of Africa.

Cape RADD “Snorkel for Science” program [Limit of 60]



Cape RADD invites everyday individuals to participate in marine conservation by assisting in data collection on fish and sharks in False Bay. Participants join marine biologists for a guided snorkel to search for species like puffadder and pyjama sharks. The program includes a briefing on False Bay’s ecosystem and the trip’s objectives, with the aim of balancing scientific value and customer enjoyment. Divers will assist with spotting and photographing sharks and their patterns to submit them to Fin Spotter for population estimation and movement tracking. The activity is beginner-friendly, with all equipment provided, and is subject to weather conditions

Where: Simon’s Town (approx. 45km or 42 minutes dependant on traffic) 
Cost Per Person: R1500.00

What To Bring: Bring a swimming costume and towel. All other equipment is provided!

Time Commitment: Full day 

Departure time:  Saturday, 19 October 2024 from 7am with last tour departing 1pm – delegates will be advised of the exact departure time by the organizers in August 2024.

Southern African Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds


A SANCCOB staff member will guide you around the facility, attendees will be taken to
the different areas (hospital, rehabilitation, Chick Rearing Unit, etc) and you will experience firsthand the work it entails to rehabilitate seabirds. You get to see the birds in the different areas being treated, fed or swimming.

 

Where: Tableview (approx. 18km or 34 minutes dependant on traffic) – 4hrs full trip

Cost Per Person: R575.00
